Luigi Loir French, 1845-1916
Luigi Loir was born in Austria and studied in 1853 at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Parma. Around 1863 he settled in Paris and the city was to provide inspiration for most of his future work. He initially supported himself through illustration, scenery design (for the Châteaux du Diable in 1866) and large murals for public buildings, including the Hôtel de Ville in Paris.
He won a number of awards for his work and was decorated
with the Légion d’Honneur in 1898.
