MARINE WALLON, CE LIEU-LÀ: Institutional Exhibition

6 November 2026 - 7 March 2027
Overview

From 17 October 2026 to 7 March 2027, the Musée de l’Abbaye in Saint-Claude presents a monographic exhibition devoted to Marine Wallon. Co-produced with the Musée Estrine in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Ce lieu-là brings together nearly 70 works and offers a retrospective view of fifteen years of the artist’s practice.

Landscape as a field of exploration

Co-produced with the Musée Estrine in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Ce lieu-là brings together works by Marine Wallon centred on the theme of landscape.

Moving between figuration and abstraction, her work explores the world through a combination of observation, personal perception and traces of time. Landscape becomes a field of experimentation in which different viewpoints open up expansive spaces, while human and animal figures merge into broad areas of colour.

Following its 2025 exhibition devoted to Laurent Proux and the industrial landscape, the Musée de l’Abbaye continues its exploration of landscape, one of the central themes of its curatorial and research programme.

Wallon’s exhibition contributes to this ongoing enquiry, highlighting an artistic practice characterised by consistent subjects and singular pictorial research.

Born in 1985 and graduating from the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris in 2009, Marine Wallon approaches landscape as a sensory experience, a repository of memory, and a space for projection.

Working primarily in oil and pastel, her practice moves between figuration and abstraction. Colour, composition, cropping and movement give her landscapes an immersive quality and invite the viewer into the pictorial space.

A 160-page catalogue, published by Liénart, accompanies the exhibition.
